According to cognation, the nearest to the kanklės are only the stringed instruments kanun/ganun of the Mediterranean Sea - the Balkans - the Middle East - the Transcaucasia, while according to typology, - and sangultap, as well as a naras-juh/panan-juh of the Ob Ugrians - Khantians and Mansians
