Suvalkiečiai, just as Western Aukštaičiai and Žemaičiai, playing and singing at the same time, keep the main features of folk songs - free waving of melody, extensions; melody is sometimes made more interesting by simple, but clear improvisation. Some ways of playing dance melodies remains of playing harmonica or violin.
